Boys Rock Diva Dare

Hi friends!  It's my turn to wrap up the Tag You're It October Diva Dare over on the Verve Blog today.  This month's dare is to make a tag, use a tag on a card, or be inspired by a tag!  For my take on the dare, I did all three!

I fell in love with these Boys Rock clothing tags as soon as some super cute fuzzy hoodies for the boys arrived and immediately rescued them for a future project.  I made a little tag shaped robot card to go along with the clothing tags, then decorated a couple white lunch sacks to hang them from for some super cute gift packaging for my boys!

Head on over to the Verve Blog today to see my whole write-up and closeup photos, as well as a chance to win a little Verve!

Mojo Greetings

Hi friends!  Did you have a wonderful weekend?  I've been trying to recover from last week's craziness of trying to get the Verve release ready a midst both boys, Mark and myself being terribly sick.  Not a week I'd like to repeat, and there's really no rest for the weary with the most rambunctious twins on the planet in our family. {no joking there - they are relentless!}  But the October Verve release is here and it's a super fabulous one, if you ask me! {wink}  You should totally go check it out... after you check out my Mojo Monday card, that is!

It's the final Monday of the month and that means it's round or square week.  I went with the square option and made this card over the course of 2 failed naptimes for the boys.  I pulled out the new Unto Us set and embossed the reindeer image in early espresso and the snowflake image in white, then also used as a tone on tone background for the Old Olive strip.  I then cut the reindeer image with the coordinating Reindeer Fun Die Set and also stamped the chevron label in old olive and cut that with the Classy Label Die.  The season's greetings sentiment is from the new Holiday Treats set and embossed in white onto Deck the Halls DSP.  The seam binding is from the Signature Ribbon Collection and I tied it around a 4.5" square that I embossed just the bottom half of with snowflakes.  I finished off with some rusted jingle bells dusted with a bit of champagne glass glitter.

Okay, I'll leave you with a bit of news about the Verve sales going on right now!

Now through November 26, you can purchase the Verve October Release Collection (includes the three new release stamp sets AND the three coordinating dies) for just $49.95! That's a savings of a little over 25%, and is equal to getting the dies for free!  Who doesn't love a little free in their lives?

Plus, we've got a holiday sale going on... 20% off  70 holiday sets and dies, including the existing dies that coordinate with the new sets!  And to tie up all those pretty cards you'll be making, we've got all of our ribbon collections marked 10% off, too!

Verve New Release Blog Hop

I'm the start of the hop, so grab yourself a treat and settle in for a hopping good time!  PS. A random commenter from today's hop will win our ENTIRE October release, so be sure to leave a comment at each stop to increase your chances! (Contest ended)

My card today was made for my hubby - yesterday was the 17th anniversary of our first date.  I used the new Chevron Love and Heart Quartet Die, along with the Wavy Heart Die Set.  The other day as I was distracting one of my twins with a Hello Kitty keychain, I remembered a stamped leather keychain my mom had when I was growing up.  It was long and thin and had hearts and other intricate designs and I loved to play with it!  So that was my inspiration for this card.  To achieve the leathery look, I inked up my embossing folder with vintage photo ink, then ran a piece of kraft cardstock through it, then spritzed with water and added more sponged ink until I got it how I wanted.

The chevron wavy heart is stamped in espresso on kraft and then cut with the Wavy Heart Die Set.  The inner heart is cut with the Heart Quartet Die and I layered it on dimensionals on top of the stamped heart.  I cut another wavy heart from the same designer paper and also a long thin banner strip.  My tag is a rectangle that I embossed the sentiment onto in early espresso, then cut the angles with a hexagon punch and added a punched circle for the hole and looped a little polka dot basics ribbon through.

Okay, time to hop along to the next stop....  Jen Shults!

Unto Us Verve Spotlight Hop

Hi friends!  It's Day 3 of our spotlight hops and today the Divas are shining their sneaky little spotlights on a new set called Unto Us.  All the sets and dies we've peeked this week will be available in the Verve store sometime tonight.  (Not quite sure an exact time, since my little guys being sick this week has left me a bit behind schedule on the website side of things).  But the Divas will be back hopping tomorrow morning, so it will definitely be ready by then!!!  {grin}

Unto Us has some beautiful Christ-centered Christmas sentiments as well as a chevron version of the Classy Label Die and some winter imagery that coordinates with the new Reindeer Fun Die Set.  I'm the start of the hop, so grab yourself a treat and settle in for a hopping good time!  PS.  There are prizes to be won, so be sure to leave comments as you hop about to the blogs linked at the bottom of this post!

I think Christmas cards are one of my favorite things to make.  I rarely make the same one twice, although this one was so fun and easy, I might just have to make it again and again!  I love the look of book paper and when I saw this kraft book paper in a collection of 8.5 x 11 papers at Michael's I was sold.  I stamped the chevron label from Unto Us in black, the cut with the coordinating Classy Label Die.  The sentiment is also from Unto Us  and stamped inside the label.  I added a strip of the same paper behind as a little banner, then used the Banner Bundle Die Set to cut three banners of varying sizes and lengths from scraps.  The base layer is embossed with a snowflake folder from Darice and I wrapped some seam binding and twine around it, tied a bow and added a couple rusty jingle bells to finish it off.

Holiday Treats Verve Spotlight Hop

Hi friends!  It's Day 2 of our spotlight hops and today the Divas are shining their sneaky little spotlights on a new set called Holiday Treats.  Like yesterday's set, this set coordinates with some old and new dies as well!  I'm the start of the hop, so grab yourself a cup of cheer and settle in for an inspirational hop!  And there are prizes to be won, so be sure to leave comments as you hop about!

I have so many ideas for this set and had planned on making a little treat packaging ensemble for my preview today, but my littles and I have been very sick and I'm just thankful that I had made a few samples ahead of time with this release, since there's been nothing but Dr.'s appointments and breathing treatments around here lately!

For my preview I made a little pocket card to tuck a Starbucks gift card into for a little holiday gift giving.  My pocket consists of a 3.25" x 5.5" piece of designer paper, scored at 2.75", with scor-tape down the outer sides, to form the pocket.  I then rounded the corners and added a thumb cut out with a circle punch to easily slip the gift card in and out of the pocket.  I embossed the chevron tag from Holiday Treats in white then cut out with the matching Tagged Rectangle Die.  I added the cup of cheer sentiment and the coffee steam in Vintage Photo ink, then embossed the small rounded snowflake from the set in white.

The java cup is stamped in cherry cobbler and cut with the coordinating Cup of Cheer Die Set  then popped up on top of the tag.  Next I wrapped some Signature Collection seam binding around the pocket and threaded both ends through the hole I punched in the tag and tied a bow. The background of the card is stamped with Happy Holidays repeatedly and then a couple sizes of snowflakes in VersaMark ink randomly, then I ran the whole piece through the paper crimper for a little texture.

The snowflakes are embossed in white and cut with the Floral Circles Die Set.  I scattered them around the card and added pearl sequins from the Pastel Sequin Mix and a tiny rhinestone to each snowflake center.  For the final touch, I decided I wanted it to be a little more obvious that there was a gift card tucked inside, so I pulled out the Chevron Love set, and embossed the For You sentiment in white onto vellum and then tucked it into the pocket with the gift card.

Chevron Love Verve Spotlight Hop

Hi friends!  Happy Wednesday!  I'm so happy there's another new release from Verve right around the corner.  You're at the very beginning of our first day of spotlight hops!  So grab your favorite treat and settle in for a sneak preview tour of our latest set, Chevron Love, which will release this Friday night, October 25! Oh, and there are PRIZES up for grabs, so be sure to leave some comment love as you hop about for a chance to win some new Verve!

I made several cards with this set and had a really hard time deciding which to share today.  I finally went with my favorite of the bunch, a true clean and simple card.  A while back I made a card using the All Aflutter Die Set and I used chevron washi tape to make the butterflies.  I loved the look of it, and it became the inspiration for this set.

The butterfly from Chevron Love is stamped twice in Strawberry Slush and both cut out with the coordinating All Aflutter die.  I used a colorless blender pen to give a softer pink to the chevrons, then added some dark chocolate pearls for the butterfly bodies.  The sentiment is also from Chevron Love and is stamped directly onto white cardstock.  I embossed a piece of Pool Party card stock with the Chevron embossing folder, then fussy cut the edges for a zig zag strip.  I finished off with dimensional tape and an espresso satin bow.  Easy peasy, but so striking!

Sneaky Mojo

Hi friends!  Welcome to another Mojo Monday here on the blog.  I had a lot of fun with this week's sketch, especially since I was working with new stamps that will be releasing from Verve this Friday night!.  Peeks officially start on Wednesday, but I thought I'd do a super sneaky peek with today's Mojo post!

The set I'm sneaking is called Chevron Love  and the sentiment, balloon images and chevron star from this set were used to make this card.  The balloons are individual stamps and do not include the strings.  I wanted to be able to configure them however I wished and use twine or other ribbons as needed.  Here I left a little space between my sketched in strings to place the It's your birthday sentiment.  The chevron star is stamped in pool party on the same color cardstock for the the horizontal panel.  Lots of black matting and a small portion of the Award Banner Trim Die give a lot of contrast against the white and I finished off with a polka dot bow and a silver photo corner for embellishment.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you have a fabulous week!  Be sure to tune in Wednesday through Saturday for some awesome peeks from our design team and chances to win some brand new Verve!

For Fun

Already Wednesday?  What a crazy week.  My littles have been asserting their 19 month independence lately and it's beyond exhausting.  Seriously, bone weary exhausting.  So I haven't had much time for stamping lately.  I found this card using Geared Up in my photo archives that never made it to my blog, so I thought I'd share it today.

I needed a birthday card for a 1 year old girl and so I decided to dress my retro bot in pink and black.  The photo looks a little off in color, but the two tones I used were strawberry slush and blushing bride.  I thought the number fit well in the little embossed hexagons, so stamped it repeatedly in a little pattern as the background for the card.  The bot from Geared Up is stamped on blushing bride and I paper pieced the body and hat for a little dimension and easy color.  The body is stamped lightly with some of the smaller gear shapes, then I added the 1 to the center.  The sentiment is stamped onto a die cut from the Flag-It Die Set and I paper pieced one of the gear stamped images onto a black pinking circle for a fun paper embellishment.  I finished off with some Pastel Sequin Mix and a Metal Mix Sequin.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Oh BOY

Hi friends!  Happy Tuesday!  I'm popping in with a super simple card I made with this week's Viva la Verve! sketch.  As soon as I saw it, I thought of the little robots from Birthday Bots.

I first punched three holes in my 2" strip for a guide, then stamped the robot from Birthday Bots twice and the sentiment in black and punched out with a smaller circle punch.  I colored the bots and boy sentiment with Copic markers, then laid the strip with the punched circles down on a slightly larger black piece and glued my stamped pieces down.  Then I added dimensionals to the circle piece and popped it over the stamped images for some dimension.  The base is one of my favorite embossing folders ever and I embellished with some Metal Mix Sequins from Verve.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Have a fantastic day!

Bots for My Boys

Hi friends!  Happy Friday!  Yesterday I got a day all to myself, and you can bet that a little bit of that "me" time involved a little time creating in the studio!  Even though my boys were gone, I kept hearing little "haunting" cries, so I decided to make them a couple of Halloween cards.  I showed them to them this morning and Trevor's little eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.  We've been quite fortunate that they seem to have different enough personalities that they always prefer different things.  We let them pick their outfits sometimes and as I do it, I'm always crossing my fingers that today is not the day they both decide they need to wear the raccoon shirt!!!  Anyhow, like clothing, Trevor picked his favorite, which is this first card.  And Kellan picked his favorite which is the second card.

Trevor's favorite... pretty sure he picked this because of all the shiny stuff on it!

The bot from Birthday Bots is stamped in Archival ink, which unfortunately still bled just a bit when I colored with Copics  (the orange is done with a Spica glitter pen).  So I ended up cutting him out to reduce some of the bleeding and pasted him onto a white cream rectangle.  The hello is also from Birthday Bots and I stamped the October from Calendar Countdown in pumpkin pie and die cutting with the Mini Curvy Bookplate Die Set.  The background is the Darice Brick Wall embossing folder and I rubbed Pewter Distress Stain all over it for a fun metallic effect.  I also used a bit of the distress stain and a watebrush to go over the body of the bot, so the silvers would match up.  I used a portion of the Award Banner Trim placed under the ribbon upside down for the scallop trim and used a couple triangles to ground the bot panel, then accented with googly eyes and some fun silver bling I found in the dollar bin at JoAnn's.

Kellan's Favorite...  I'm sure he loved the ribbon and twine.  He just loves cords of any kind!

Same bot from Birthday Bots  (embossed in black this time so no bleeding) colored with Copics and an orange Spica glitter pen.  Added the Halloween sentiment from Boo to You on a pinking circle, then embellished with some wide striped ribbon tied up with black twine.  The number strip is washi tape I found in the dollar bin at JoAnn's (love it!) and I used the same embossing folder, but this time only whitewashed the edges with some of the pewter distress stain and a waterbrush.  More googly eyes, and a few distressed layers finish things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you have a fabulous weekend full of fun, family and creativity!

Poppies for You

Hi friends!  Happy Thursday!  Today I'm popping in with a quick little card I threw together earlier this week.  I only had a little bit of time before I had to leave, so I was just playing with scraps on my desk and this is the result.

I really wanted to use some of the leftover book paper from my Mojo Monday card, so I added some to a piece of cream card stock, then sponged with Antique Linen and accented with a section of the Award Banner Trim Die in soft sky.  I used the same book paper for the middle layer of the Charming Oval Die Set and masked off part of the sentiment from Each Day to stamp just the For You in rich razzleberry.  Small shiny gold pearls accent both the sentiment panel and the banner trim.

The poppies from Poppy Birthday are stamped onto cream card stock cut with the Build a Poppy Die Set  then sponged a little with Antique Linen distress ink and accented with some Stardust Stickles in the flower centers.  I used my new favorite Chicken Wire embossing folder for the soft sky and cream panels and a fun little triangle of rich razzleberry to ground the flowers a bit.  Finished card size is 4.25" square.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I have a fun day to myself planned as the boys are headed to grandma & grandpa's for the day.  Mostly prep work for our upcoming release, but I'll enjoy the silence I've missed so much these past 19 months. {grin}

Mojo Poppies

Hi friends!  It's time for another Mojo Monday sketch, and since it's the first Monday of the month, that means it's CONTEST time!  So play along with our Mojo 314 sketch and link it up for a chance to win a free stamp set from Verve!  We add a winner for every 50 entries, so play as often as you like!

My card for today was so much fun to make!  I just love working with book paper and these poppies and coordinating dies are just so fun!  I cut two sets of book paper flowers with the Build a Poppy Die Set and also cut four sets of the leaves from old olive.  I then stamped the outlined flowers from Poppy Birthday on each book paper die cut, then stamped the solid flowers over the top of that in blushing bride.  The banner is cut with the Banner Bundle Die Set and I used the leaf and flower centers stamps as a little tone on tone background for the banner.  Next I stamped the outlined flowers in blushing bride on the book paper circle layer and on the cream layer cut with the Mini Classy Label Die Set.  Some black mats, Pastel Sequins, Spring Fling ribbon and a mini library clip finish off my embellishments.  The blushing bride layer is embossed with the Chicken Wire embossing folder (just love the look of that one!)

This week's Mojo sketch was based on this fun little card I made for Verve's latest release.

That's the wrap-up for the card.  If you missed my World Card Making Day Diva Inspirations Hop post, there's still time to hop about for a chance to win Verve's ENTIRE September release!  And today's the final day of Verve's World Card Making Day Sale!

WCMD Diva Inspirations Hop Card Set

Hi friends!  Happy World Card Making Day!  It's the official start to the holiday card making season and it's also the 5th of the month, so that means the Divas are hopping with their monthly Diva Inspirations Hop!  There's a great BIG PRIZE up for grabs, so be sure to read on for all the details on how to win some shiny new Verve!  I'm the start of today's hop, so grab a treat and let's get started!

Want to win Verve's ENTIRE September Release? One lucky commenter along the hop will win our entire September rleease, so be sure to leave some comment love on all the blogs linked below to be entered in the drawing!  Comment deadline for the prize drawing is 5pm Mountain on Thursday, October 10.

For my project, I decided to pair an old favorite, Joyful Blooms, with the newly released Poppy Birthday for a fun little card set.  I usually give at least a couple card sets away as Christmas gifts each year, so I thought I'd get a jump on one of them.

I drew up a simple little sketch and cut all my pieces before I started. I've attached the sketch  if you want to use it, plus listed my measurements:
(4) 2.25" x 3" pieces and (4) 4.25" x 4.25" card bases from white cardstock
(4) 4.125" x 4.125" mats and (4) scallop rectangle nestabilities die cuts from black cardstock
(1) 4" x 4" piece of each color (strawberry slush, pool party, crisp cantaloupe and so saffron)

Next I stamped the trio of poppies with stems several times in black on each white piece.  I embossed them all with clear embossing powder so I wouldn't have to wait to do my coloring, then colored each with the coordinating markers.  (For the strawberry slush panel, I used blushing bride as the main poppy color and highlighted with the strawberry slush marker).  I also added the sentiments at this point.  Three of them are from Joyful Blooms and one is from Poppy Birthday.  When these panels were done, I layered them onto the black scallop rectangles with dimensionals, added a little black liquid pearls to each scallop and set aside to dry.

Next I stamped the three sizes of lined poppies tone on tone on each of the four colored card stock squares for a fun background.  A seam binding bow from the Black Beauty Ribbon Collection is tied around each panel and then it was simply a matter of layering all my pieces together.  Super quick - it took me about 45 minutes from start to finish to make the whole set, which is about all the attention span I have for mass production!  {grin}

Alrighty, thanks so much for stopping by today!  I've got another card up on the Verve Blog today, too! Time to move along and see what gorgeous creation Amy Kolling has to share with you!  Happy Hopping!  Oh!  And if you're in the market for some holiday stamps, Verve has a 25% off sale on our holiday stamps & dies this weekend only!

Hi friends!  Happy Friday!  It's time for another Viva la Verve! challenge over in our forum and this week, Sarah has a super fun sketch AND/OR inspiration pic for you.  The inspiration pic brought out a lot of ideas for me, but I still needed to make a 1st birthday card for my niece, so I decided on aqua and pink from the floral canvases and got to work with the new Birthday Bots and Geared Up sets.

The sweet little robot from Birthday Bots is embossed onto white cardstock and then colored with Copics.  I added a little backsplash of gears from Geared Up around her in pink and aqua and then stamped a bunch of gears for a random background on the pool party background.  The gear embellishment is a couple of the gears from Geared Up cut with circle punches and matted with a Sprightly Sprockets die, then I stamped and hand trimmed the 1 to top it off.

I laced some thin polka dot ribbon through a section of the Award Banner Trim Die  then embellished with Metal Mix Sequins and teeny nail art rhinestones.  Super fun and a fun little keepsake for her first birthday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Be sure to stop in tomorrow for the World Card Making edition of our Diva Inspirations Hop!  We'll be giving away the entire September release to one lucky commenter along the hop, so tune in!

Amazing

Hi friends!  Happy Thursday!  I thought I'd just pop in and share a card that I made during the release and never shared.  Actually it's the very first card I made with this release.  I made a slightly different pink version of this card for the video I did during release.  It's such an easy card to make and so much fun!

The poppy is made with the Build a Poppy Die Set and I stamped the solid blooms from Poppy Birthday on each layer, then used black cardstock and a sequin for the center.  The stem and leaves are cut from Pear Pizzazz, inked up a bit and stamped with the coordinating leaf stamp

I love the wonky panel.  Just lay your cardstock down on your cardbase and trim the edges off and it gives such a striking effect.  The fun birthday sentiment from Poppy Birthday  and some more goodies from the Pastel Sequin Mix finish things off.
